Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko decided to increase the number of border guards for stronger national security, the president's press service said on Monday.

Lukashenko made the decision to have more border guards "due to increase in negative factors associated with illegal migration, drug trafficking and arms smuggling," according to the press service.

The president stressed that the country's border policy is aimed at strengthening security in its border area with neighboring nations, not trying to have confrontation with them.

He instructed to ensure law and order at the border, showing maximum attention to tourists and guests who visit Belarus, especially during the coming 2nd European Games in June.
