Ukraine has withdrawn from the coordinating bodies of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) due to its tensions with Russia, local media reported on Wednesday, citing Ukraine's Ambassador to Belarus Igor Kizim.

Kizim told reporters that Ukraine has "no representative office at these bodies, it has been closed."

Currently, Kiev is seeking to withdraw from certain agreements with the CIS, he added.

In 2018, Kiev terminated its participation in the statutory bodies of the CIS, and last month Ukraine withdrew from three agreements on economic cooperation within the organization.

Ukraine has voiced its intention of discontinuing its work with the CIS due to tensions with Russia.

Founded in 1991 as a regional association of former Soviet republics, the CIS comprises Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.

Ukraine and Turkmenistan are associate members of the organization.
