China on Tuesday urged "relevant countries" to do more things that are conducive to peace and stability of the Middle East after the U.S. designated an Iranian armed force as a "terrorist organization."

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lu Kang made the remarks at a routine press briefing when asked to comment on the United States latest move.

U.S. President Donald Trump said on Monday that the United States designates Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps as a "foreign terrorist organization (FTO)," which "will be the first time that the United States has ever named a part of another government an FTO".

As a response to the designation, Iran's Supreme National Security Council made a statement saying that the move by the U.S. has endangered peace and security in the region and the world and also announced that the U.S. Central Command forces in West Asia is a "terrorist group."

At Tuesday's briefing, Lu said China always upholds that all countries should observe the basic guidelines of international relations on the basis of the purposes and principles of the UN Charter, rather than pursuing power politics and bullying.

"We hope that relevant countries, especially major powers outside the region, will do more things that are conducive to the peace and stability of the Mideast, instead of taking measures that will lead to further tension in the region," Lu said.
