Tajik President Emomali Rahmon will pay an official visit to Russia on Tuesday and Wednesday at the invitation of Russian President Vladimir Putin, the Kremlin said in a statement Monday.

On Wednesday, Putin and Rahmon will discuss "key issues of bilateral relations and measures to further develop mutually beneficial cooperation in political, trade, economic, cultural, humanitarian and other fields," it said.

The parties will also exchange opinions on current regional issues, the statement said, adding that a series of joint documents will be signed during the visit.

Russia and Tajikistan are close allies, with the Central Asian republic hosting a Russian military base.
