A pet deer killed a man and left a woman seriously injured in the southern Australian state of Victoria on Wednesday.
The man was feeding the animal when it turned violent and gored him, causing injuries from which he later died.
His wife tried to help during the attack but was also set upon and left with life-threatening injuries.
The woman was treated by paramedics and taken to hospital in serious condition.
"Both residents suffered critical injuries, however, the man died a short time later," Victoria Police said in a statement. "The woman has been airlifted to hospital with life-threatening injuries."
Police officers killed the deer which the couple had kept as their property for around a few years, along with a number of sheep.
Deer are not native to Australia, and there have recently been calls by farmers to officially classify them as pests which would result in a culling of their numbers.
An investigation is ongoing into the circumstances of the attack.
