US, Japan to hold high-level security meeting

The United States and Japan will hold a Security Consultative Committee meeting here this Friday, the State Department said Wednesday.

Known as "2+2" meeting, the talks will be attended by U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, U.S. Acting Secretary of Defense Patrick Shanahan, Japanese Foreign Minister Taro Kono and Defense Minister Takeshi Iwaya, State Department said in a statement.

The senior officials of the two allies will discuss U.S.-Japan coordination on the evolving regional security environment including the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula, and enhancement of the alliance's capabilities and the continued realignment of U.S. armed forces in Japan.
