Kyrgyzstan, China to boost security cooperation

Kyrgyz President Sooronbai Jeenbekov on Monday met with visiting Chinese State Councilor and Minister of National Defense Wei Fenghe, and discussed cooperation in the field of security between the two countries.

Jeenbekov said China is an important strategic partner of Kyrgyzstan and thanked the Chinese side for its support. He said that China's hosting of the second Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation has attracted worldwide attention and is of historic significance.

The president said Kyrgyzstan firmly supports the Belt and Road Initiative and is willing to work with China to combat the "three forces" of terrorism, separatism and extremism and to bring tangible benefits to the two peoples.

For his part, Wei said that China and Kyrgyzstan are good neighbors, good friends and good partners. In recent years, under the leadership of the two heads of state, the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries has developed rapidly.

Wei noted that the cooperation between the two armies in various fields has yielded fruitful results and has effectively safeguarded the common interests of the two countries and regional peace and stability.

Wei said that China is willing to work with Kyrgyzstan to implement the important consensus reached by the two countries' heads of state, to strengthen communication and cooperation, and to promote the sound development of relations between the two armies.

During his visit, Wei also held talks with Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Kyrgyzstan Rayimberdi Duishenbiev.
