Police are scrambling to investigate a string of gun crimes in Sydney's outer suburbs after a man was found with gunshot wounds to his forearm in the early hours of Thursday morning.

The shooting was the third in just over 24 hours, prompting fears of links to organized crime which could lead to further retaliation.

A mother and a baby were also caught up in the violence and have been lucky to escape after the house they were in was sprayed with bullets.

The initial shooting took place in the early hours of Wednesday morning with police responding to reports of shots fired from a car into a home in the suburb of Regents Park.

Then on Wednesday night police again responded to a property being fired on, this one with a mother and a baby inside, in Mount Pritchard.

"Police arrived to find spent casings in the driveway of the home. A woman and a baby were in the house at the time but were uninjured," New South Wales police said in a statement.

"The male occupant who was not home when police first arrived has since returned to the house and is assisting with inquiries."

Following those shootings, on Thursday morning, a man was found in a park in the suburb of Canley Vale with a gunshot wound to his forearm.

The 37-year-old was treated by paramedics at the scene and taken to hospital in a stable condition.

Specialist forensic officers have been called in to examine all three scenes in an attempt to determine whether they are linked to organized crime gangs.
