Kenya would support all efforts to ensure peace and political stability reigns in Sudan following the ouster of long-term president Omar al-Bashir from power, the government spokesperson said on Thursday.

"We would not like to see any form of instability in the region because a disruption of peace and stability in the region would send refugees fleeing to Kenya and other neighbouring countries," government spokesperson Cyrus Oguna told a news conference in Nairobi.

Oguna said the government of Kenya is committed to the search for a political solution to the current impasse in the country.

"We would like to see peace sustained in Sudan and that there are no displacements of populations," Oguna added.

Peace talks between Sudanese political stakeholders have been continuing in Khartoum, facilitated by special envoys appointed by African Union, Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, and Intergovernmental Authority on Development.
