Li Zhanshu, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), on Tuesday met with a delegation led by Camilo Sanchez, general secretary of the Colombia Liberal Party.

Li briefed the delegation members on China's system of political parties, saying it is a "great political creation by the Communist Party of China (CPC) and the Chinese people, and has great advantages."

As a ruling party, the CPC makes every decision people-centered, said Li, adding that the system of people's congresses upholds the unity of the Party's leadership, the running of the country by the people, and rule of law, which guarantees the ruling party's effective leadership and governance of the country through legal procedures.

The NPC stands ready to work with Colombian Chamber of Representatives to jointly promote bilateral ties, Li said.

The Colombian guests spoke highly of the successful practice of socialism with Chinese characteristics and expressed the willingness to promote cooperation between political parties and legislative bodies from both countries.
