China and Vietnam should properly manage maritime issues and handle differences, said Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Thursday.

Wang met with Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs Pham Binh Minh on the sidelines of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) foreign ministers meetings and other related meetings.

Wang said that series of important consensus have been reached by leaders of the two countries and the two ruling parties on common strategic interests.

Both sides should try to enhance all-level communication and coordination, and in particular, should try to implement the consensus, in a bid to properly manage the maritime issues, he said.

Wang said that the two countries should also properly address differences through dialogue and communication, not allowing maritime issues to affect bilateral ties.

Pham Binh Minh, for his part, said that since the beginning of this year, Vietnam-China relationship has seen development in every sector and high-level exchanges have been maintained between the two ruling parties and two countries and both sides strive for deepening the Vietnam-China comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership.

Vietnam is willing to join hands with China to implement the important consensus reached by leaders of both countries on maritime issues, so as to promote the healthy development of the bilateral relations, he said.
