Egyptian and American special forces carried out joint military exercise to enhance counter-terrorism capabilities and skills, the Egyptian military spokesman said in a statement on Sunday.

The Joint Combined Exchange Training (JCET) included shooting from different usual and unusual positions and dealing with improvised explosive devices and booby traps, said Egypt's military spokesman Tamer al-Refai in the statement.

The joint training also involved "fighting in cities, constructed areas and open areas, eliminating armed terrorist outposts inside residential areas and clearing them, and facing emergency tactical situations during operation management."

JCET has been carried out between the two sides for several years with the purpose of exchanging military skills and expertise.

Egypt receives an annual military aid of 1.3 billion U.S. dollars from the United States since it signed the 1979 U.S.-sponsored peace treaty with Israel, the U.S. number one regional ally.
