A reception was held at Pakistan House to mark the occasion dedicated to the martyrs of the 1965 war in Pakistan, and to those who sacrificed themselves for the defense of the country.

Chinese Lieutenant General Shao Yuanming, deputy chief of the Joint Staff Department of China's Central Military Commission, was invited as the chief guest. Five other Generals leading a large delegation of People's Liberation Army (PLA) also attended the event.

Ms. Nagmana Hashmi, Ambassador of Pakistan to China, and members of diplomatic corps, defense and military attaches from various countries, Chinese government officials and members of the media, along with Pakistani diaspora in China were also present.

The event started with the National Anthems of Pakistan and China, followed by a tribute to the armed forces, law enforcement agencies and citizens of Pakistan for their sacrifices on behalf of their country.

A documentary, “The Pledge of Iron Brothers”, showcasing the unique friendship between Pakistan and China, was also screened.

Welcoming the guests, Ambassador Nagmana Hashmi said Defense Day was a sincere tribute to Pakistan's valiant armed forces and to their inherent patriotism, discipline and commitment.

She said that Pakistan seeks a peaceful and prosperous neighborhood, which is the key principle of its foreign policy. She reaffirmed Pakistan's unflinching political, moral and diplomatic support to the just cause of the people of Kashmir.

The Ambassador also highlighted the sacrifices of the armed forces of Pakistan in the fight against terrorism and reaffirmed the country's resolve to root out terrorism in any form. She thanked the Chinese government and PLA for their friendship and cooperation.
