Iran's army on Monday warned against any attempt to threaten the Islamic republic, Press TV reported.

The army's Chief Commander Seyyed Abdolrahim Mousavi said that Iran has maintained the security of the Gulf for the past 40 years and will continue to do so with full power.

Making the remarks in the southern Iranian province of Bushehr on Monday, Mousavi said that "when non-regional countries enter this region, they cause insecurity and tension."

He called for cooperation among regional states for security purposes, saying that "with the help of other regional countries, this region could be the most secure region in the world."

In the meantime, Iran is prepared to "give a crushing response to any threat at any level posed by the enemy," he added.
