A bomb cyclone is forming along the U.S. Atlantic coast Wednesday and may bring havoc to the New England region in the coming days, according to U.S. weather forecasters.
The U.S. National Weather Service said a powerful coastal storm is developing and expected to bring periods of very heavy rain and strong to perhaps damaging winds to the region.
The forecast has the pressure of the system dropping 30 millibars in 24 hours, surpassing the 24 millibar threshold for a bomb cyclone.
Many locations in the U.S. Northeast are expected to receive 5-10 cm of rainfall, while wind speeds can reach up to 60 km/h in New York City, Boston and Portland.
Aside from urban flooding, the weather system is also expected to interrupt regional air travel.
