6.3 magnitude earthquake shakes S. Philippines

An earthquake of 6.3 magnitude struck north Cotabato province in the southern Philippines on Wednesday, with damages and aftershocks expected, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.

The institute said the inland quake, which struck at 7:37 p.m. local time, hit at a depth of 15 km, about 22 km southeast of Tulunan town.

There were no immediate reports of damage yet.

The quake, which was tectonic in origin, was also felt in Kidapawan City, Tupi in South Cotabato province, Alabel in Sanrangani province, T'boli also in South Cotabato, General Santos City, Cagayan de Oro City, Gingoog City, Misamis Orietantal province, Dipolog City and Bislig City.

The tremor is expected to cause damage and aftershocks, the institute said.
