Top Chinese legislator Li Zhanshu on Wednesday called on China and Turkmenistan to strengthen the synergy of their development strategies for mutually beneficial cooperation.

The two countries are "natural partners" in jointly building the Belt and Road, said Li, chairman of the National People's Congress (NPC) Standing Committee, during a meeting with Kasymguly Babayev, deputy chairman of the Mejlis, or the Turkmen parliament.

They should strengthen the synergy of the Belt and Road initiative and Turkmenistan's development strategy, Li said, calling on the two nations to make the cake of mutually beneficial cooperation bigger.

The China-Turkmenistan strategic partnership is growing rapidly and showing great potential for further development under the leadership of their presidents, according to Li, who called the bilateral relationship a "model" of international relations featuring equality and pursuing win-win results.

The NPC stands ready to work with the Mejlis to earnestly implement the consensus reached by the heads of state, actively conduct friendly exchanges, enhance communication on legislation and cooperation under the framework of multilateral parliamentary organizations, and provide legal safeguards for further cooperation in various fields, said Li.

Babayev said the Mejlis is looking forward to deepening its friendship with the NPC. The Turkmen parliament is willing to reinforce exchanges and mutual learning on legislation with the Chinese legislative body to promote the development of relations between the two countries, he said.
