An explosion took place in Syria's northeastern city of Qamishli on Tuesday evening, state news agency SANA reported.
The blast was heard in the al-Zuhur neighborhood in Qamishli, said SANA, without revealing further details.
A source in Qamishli told Xinhua that the nature of the explosion was not known yet amid speculations that it might be caused by an airstrike.
Pro-government reports said the explosion targeted a checkpoint of Kurdish militia forces in the city, while some activist groups said it was caused by a foreign airstrike that targeted a military position of Iranian-backed forces.
The situation in northeastern Syria has been tense recently following the Turkish-led campaign that started last month against the Kurdish groups.
Explosions have been occurring almost daily in that region.
Earlier in the day, a car bomb hit the village of Tal Half on the outskirts of Ras al-Ayn city in the countryside of Hasakah. The village has recently fallen under the control of the Turkish-backed rebels, who captured it from the Kurdish forces.
On Nov. 23, at least 30 people were killed and wounded in a bombing in a rebel-held area in Raqqa province in northern Syria.
The Turkish-backed rebels entered the town of Tal Abyad and other areas in northern Syria following the Turkish cross-border assault on the Kurdish-controlled areas last month.
