China has taken "drastic" measures and shown "absolute transparency" in its battle against the novel coronavirus outbreak, Mexican experts said on Sunday.

Armando Azua, a lecturer at the Ibero-American University, told Xinhua that the "drastic" measures adopted by the Chinese government are "in line with the dimension" of the outbreak.

He said that China "is doing everything that it has to do" to win the battle against this epidemic, highlighting the construction of two new hospitals in just two weeks for the care of the infected patients.

In an interview with Xinhua, Ignacio Martinez, a researcher specializing in Asia, hailed the Chinese government's "absolute transparency" in the exchange of information.

While declaring the outbreak a Public Health Emergency of International Concern on Jan. 30, World Health Organization Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus stressed that "the speed with which China detected the outbreak, isolated the virus, sequenced the genome and shared it with WHO and the world are very impressive, and beyond words."

As to the economy, Azua predicted that the novel coronavirus will not have a significant impact on the movement of merchandise, though it will have an impact on retail sales and tourism.

"I think that after a few months, it will be regularized," he said.
