Ukrainian Foreign Minister Vadym Prystaiko said that Ukraine will negotiate with Iran the size of compensation for the downed Ukrainian plane on behalf of five countries including Ukraine, Canada, Sweden, the United Kingdom and Afghanistan, UNIAN news agency reported on Monday.

Prystaiko shared the details of the agreement within the framework of the International Coordination Group on Victim Assistance for the Ukrainian Flight PS752 (Ukraine, Canada, Sweden, United Kingdom and Afghanistan) regarding the amount of compensation Iran has to pay for the crash of the Ukrainian plane.

The Minister made this statement during the briefing at the Boryspil airport after the ceremony of laying the first stone at the site of a future memorial to Flight PS752 victims.

"We have agreed on this: Ukraine will negotiate on behalf of all five countries, and what Ukraine will agree on will be paid to citizens of all countries ... We will protect the rights of our people in the first place, but also of those who were with them on the same flight," Prystaiko said at the briefing at the Boryspil airport in Kiev on Monday.

Prystaiko noted that there were several payments. The first one will be paid by the Ukrainian government, while the second will come from the insurance company.

"The third one should come from the Iranian authorities to compensate both the families of the killed people and, in the end, our company for the destroyed plane," Prystaiko concluded.

A Ukraine International Airlines Boeing-737, performing flight en route from Tehran to Kiev, was shot down by two rockets shortly after takeoff from the Tehran airport on Jan. 8. The tragedy took the lives of all 167 passengers and nine crew members who were citizens of Ukraine, Iran, Canada, Sweden, Afghanistan, and the United Kingdom.
