Two militants were killed on Friday in a gunfight in restive Indian-controlled Kashmir, police said.
The gunfight broke out between the government forces and militants at village Sirhama of Anantnag district, about 68 km south of Srinagar city, the summer capital of Indian-controlled Kashmir.
"Yesterday evening a gunfight broke out at village Sirhama here. No sooner the contingents of police and paramilitary reached the suspected area, the gunfight began," a police official said.
"The operation was suspended late-night in wake of the darkness and resumed this morning. In the heavy exchange of fire between the two sides two militants were killed."
According to police, the government forces have not suffered any damage in the standoff.
A guerilla war has been going on between militants and Indian troops stationed in the region since 1989.
