Egyptian and Spanish naval forces conducted joint military drills across the domain of the Egyptian Navy's Southern Fleet in the Red Sea, the Egyptian military spokesman said in a statement on Thursday.

The exercise involved Egyptian frigates Al Nasser and Abu Qir and Spanish frigate Santa Maria, said Egyptian military spokesman Tamer al-Refai.

The training included different professional activities such as air defense against surface threats and carrying out various sailing formations and signal communications, he added.

Egyptian-Spanish joint naval drills have been intensified over the past few months, as a similar exercise was held earlier this month and two others were held in June.
