The 14th National Assembly (NA) of Vietnam on Monday afternoon elected Pham Minh Chinh as the country's new prime minister.
A resolution was adopted by the top legislature with an approval rate of 96.25 percent to elect Chinh as the new prime minister of the country at the ongoing 11th session of the 14th NA, Vietnam News Agency reported.
With the resolution coming into force immediately, Chinh officially replaced Nguyen Xuan Phuc, who was elected as the Vietnamese president on Monday morning.
Taking an oath into office, Chinh swore to be absolutely loyal to the nation, the people and the Constitution of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. Being elected as the prime minister is both a great honor and heavy responsibility, Chinh said, pledging that he will strive to fulfill the duty assigned by the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV), the state and the people.
Pham Minh Chinh, born on December 10, 1958, joined the CPV in 1986. He has been serving as head of the Organization Commission under the CPV Central Committee since February 2016.
According to Vietnamese legal regulations, the working tenure of the president and the prime minister is coincident with that of the NA.
