The 50th National Day of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) was celebrated in Beijing on Dec. 2, 2021.

Half a century ago, the seven current constituent emirates united to form the United Arab Emirates. In just five short decades, the UAE has become a diversified global economic powerhouse and the first Arab country to reach Mars.

"The United Arab Emirates draws its strength from its adherence to the principles of tolerance and cooperation. Hosting over 200 different nationalities residing and contributing to Emirati society, the UAE is a hospitable country, happy to work with different nations and cultures," said Dr. Ali Obaid Al Dhaheri, Ambassador of the UAE to China, during the celebration event.

"The UAE will, in partnership with the international community and with a spirit of positivity, work to face global challenges, transforming them into opportunities," he said.

Zhai Jun, China's special envoy on Middle East affairs, also made a speech regarding the UAE Golden Jubilee.

"Over the past half-century and under the wise leadership of the leaders of the UAE, the brave, hard-working and wise people of the UAE have realized numerous world-renowned achievements," Zhai said.

"By extension, the UAE has played an important role in maintaining peace and stability in the Middle East and the greater Gulf region, positively contributing to the promotion of world peace and global economic development," he noted.

UAE-China relations

2021 also marks the 37th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the United Arab Emirates and the People's Republic of China.

At present, China is the UAE's leading trading partner. At the same time, the UAE is China's major export market and non-oil trading partner in the Middle East and North Africa, thanks to the Belt and Road Initiative and the UAE-China strategic comprehensive partnership.

At present, over 220,000 Chinese nationals and more than 6,000 Chinese companies reside and operate in the UAE, contributing to close cultural exchange and growing affection.

The following 50 years of shared and sustainable prosperity

By embracing diversity, encouraging innovation, and welcoming global engagement, the UAE has been recognized as a premier hub for major international events.

The UAE is hosting the Expo Dubai 2020 and will be honored to hold COP28 in 2023.

Through forward-looking strategies such as "Projects of the 50," which will attract investment into artificial intelligence, and "UAE Net-Zero by 2050", and continued coordination with close allies, the UAE has already begun to lay the foundation for next fifty years of shared prosperity and a greener tomorrow.
