RIO DE JANEIRO, Aug. 2 (Xinhua) -- Brazil men's volleyball coach Bernardinho has admitted his team must improve if it is to challenge for the Olympic gold medal after a 3-1 defeat to the United States.

In a replay of the 2008 Olympic final in Beijing which the US also won, Brazil stumbled 23-25, 27-25, 25-19, 25-17 in the group phase match on Thursday.

"There is a lot we need to work on," Bernardinho told Estadao. "We knew it was going to be a difficult match but we didn't perform to the level we expect.

"It's worrying because we made some bad mistakes under pressure. We can't afford to do that against a team like the U.S.."

Brazil, which won its opening two games against Tunisia and Russia, plays its next match against Serbia on Saturday. Enditem
