Iran's president calls for stronger economic ties with Pakistan: TV

TEHRAN, Aug. 6 (Xinhua) -- Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has called for stronger economic ties between the Islamic republic and Pakistan by furthering bilateral trade transactions through border areas, Press TV reported on Monday.

Ahmadinejad made the remarks in a meeting with visiting Chairman of Pakistan's Senate Nayyar Hussain Bukhari in Tehran on Sunday.

The Iranian president pointed to the friendly relations between Tehran and Islamabad, and said that strengthening border relations with Pakistan not only paves the way for enhancing the bilateral ties, but also provides the opportunity for confronting terrorist activities in these regions, said the report.

Stating that there is no obstacle in the development of ties with Pakistan, Ahmadinejad said, "The Islamic Republic of Iran and Pakistan have common interests and enemies."

The Pakistani Senate chairman, for his part, called for further bilateral cooperation between Iran and Pakistan in different fields.

Iran and Pakistan adopt common stances in many international organizations and institutions, and Iran, as a key role-player in the region, greatly influences the international and regional issues, he was quoted as saying. Enditem
