Azerbaijan suspends embassy activities in Syria
BAKU, Aug. 7 (Xinhua) -- Azerbaijan announced on Tuesday suspension of the activities of its embassy in Syria's capital Damascus and recalled its diplomatic mission staff.
Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry spokesman Elman Abdullayev said in a press release that Baku made the decision citing the serious security risk and growing violence in the country. Azerbaijani ambassador to Syria Mahir Aliyev and the embassy's staff left Syria on Tuesday.
Abdullayev did not specify when the embassy will restore its activity in Damascus.
The bloody battles continue between Syria's opposition and President Bashar al-Assad forces in Damascus and other cities. The opposition blasted Syrian State TV on Monday.
