Lebanon not to attend meeting over Syria in Tehran
BEIRUT, Aug. 7 (Xinhua) -- The Lebanese Foreign Affairs Ministry has informed Iran that Lebanon will not take part in an upcoming meeting on the Syrian conflict that Tehran is hosting, a ministerial source who requested anonymity told Xinhua on Tuesday.
The source said that "in line with the policy of self disassociation, and because Lebanon has never participated in any International meeting on Syria, Lebanon will not participate in the Tehran conference".
Iran has called for a ministerial meeting for the states that have taken a "realistic and principle" stance on the Syrian crisis, and announced Monday that it is expecting the participation of 10 countries in the meeting.
The Iranian National Security head Saeed Jalili visited Beirut on Monday and discussed with the Lebanese officials the ongoing preparations for the Non Aligned Countries meeting that would be hosted by Teheran at the end of August.
Syria has been marred in a violent bloody crisis since March 2011 and the governmental forces are fighting armed rebels who are demanding the ousting of President Bashar Assad. Enditem
