Israel to set up committee to look into Olympic fiasco

JERUSALEM, Aug. 8 (Xinhua) -- Israeli authorities on Wednesday announced that a special committee will try to determine the reasons behind Israeli team's losses during London Olympics, where no Israeli athlete so far managed to obtain a medal.

Despite the fact that the funds for this year's team were greater than before, Israeli athletes may have to come back empty- handed, Culture and Sport Minister Limor Livnat said.

"I have great esteem for all of the athletes on Israel's team. Every one of them worked hard and put in the greatest effort in order to win a medal, and for that I and the Israeli public are thankful," Livnat said on Wednesday, as reported by The Jerusalem Post.

The committee will be in charge of examining the preparations and the shortcomings so that the same mistakes are not made again for Rio de Janeiro's Olympics in 2016, the minister said.

"Although we did not win a medal, some of the athletes had impressive accomplishments and showed incredible capabilities in competing against their rivals," Livnat pointed out. Enditem
