PARIS, Aug. 16 (Xinhua) -- A wild fire starting Thursday in Gironde, south of France has destroyed some 400 hectares of forest, local media reported on Thursday.

"It is 400 hectares of (burnt forest) and the situation is unfavorable because of swirling winds," an officer from the departmental operational center for fire and rescue was quoted by French broadcaster TF1 as saying.

According to the report, a total of 150 firefighters, 60 vehicles and 4 aircraft had been mobilized to fight against the fire.

One firefighter was seriously injured, but no casualty had been reported so far, the report said.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

The situation was complicated by the hot and dry weather in southern France.

Six provinces in France are currently under a heatwave alert on Thursday with temperature in Paris expected to hit 36 degrees Celsius during the weekend. Enditem
