S. Korea's industrial power sales grow slower in July
SEOUL, Aug. 21 (Xinhua) -- South Korea's industrial power sales grew at a slower pace in July compared with the previous month due to a drop in exports, a government report showed Tuesday.
Sales of industrial electricity, a gauge of industrial activities, reached 22.07 billion kilowatt-hours in July, up 2.3 percent from the same month of last year, according to the Ministry of Knowledge Economy. For the first seven months of this year, industrial power sales expanded 3.3 percent on-year to 151. 05 billion kilowatt-hours.
The July growth was down from a 2.8 percent on-year expansion tallied in June. The decrease was attributed to weaker exports that dropped 8.8 percent in July from a year before.
Electricity sales for educational facilities usage declined 0.7 percent last month on an on-year basis, but those for households and general usage grew 1.4 percent and 3.5 percent respectively.
Total power sales, including industrial and household sectors, came in at 38.15 billion kilowatt-hours in July, up 2.3 percent from a year earlier. Enditem
