Madagascar presents condolence to Ethiopia

ANTANANARIVO, Aug. 22 (Xinhua) -- Madagascar presented a condolence letter to Ethiopia on the occasion of passing away Ethiopian Prime minister Meles Zenawi Asres, a statement from Madagascar's ministry of Foreign Affairs said on Wednesday.

"I was deeply grieved to learn of the death of His Excellency Meles Zenawi, Prime Minister of Ethiopia," the Malagasy Prime Minister Pierrot Rajaonarivelo said in the condolence letter.

"Permit me to offer on behalf of the government and the Malagasy people my profound sympathy," Pierrot said, adding in the letter "Please convey to the family of the late Prime Minister my heartfelt condolences at this time of sorrow."

"With Meles Zenawi Ethiopia has lost a dedicated political leader. He will be remembered... for his efforts to lift his country from the clutches of poverty and delivered Ethiopia into forefront of modernity," the letter said.

Meles Zenawi, 57, died on Aug. 20 following unspecified illness. Enditem
