PARIS, Aug. 28 (Xinhua) -- Philippine Airlines (PAL) has signed a firm contract to acquire 54 modern, fuel-efficient Airbus A320 Family aircraft and A330 planes from the European aircraft manufacturer Airbus, the France-based aircraft maker said Tuesday.
Following the new order worth 7 billion U.S. dollars at price list, Airbus will provide 34 A321ceo aircraft, 10 A321neo aircraft and 10 A330-300s to the Philippine flag carrier, it added.
First deliveries were scheduled next year, according to a statement posted on Airbus website.
"With these aircraft, we will be able to offer more passengers the best the industry has to offer across our Asia-Pacific network. At the same time, we will benefit from the low operating costs associated with new generation aircraft and the reduced impact on the environment," said PAL Chairman Lucio Tan.
With new ordered A321 aircraft, Philippine Airlines planned "to enhance the airline's product offerings on domestic and regional routes, as well as to support alliances with its partner airlines," Tan said.
It also wanted to meet "higher demand of regional routes and longer range services to the Middle East and Australia" by using A330s. Enditem
