Thais warned of heavy rains and flash flood
BANGKOK, Sept. 6 (Xinhua) -- Thailand's Meteorological Department on Thursday issued a warning for people in most parts of the country to prepare for widespread scattered rain with heavy falls in some areas, the danger of floods and forest-runoff on Thursday and Friday.
An active monsoon trough is prevailing in lower parts of the northeast and central plains, the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand. It will cause abundant rain and isolated heavy to very heavy rain are likely over central, eastern, northern, northeastern and southern regions, the department said.
People living near hillsides and waterways in these regions should prepare for heavy rain, possible flash floods and forest- runoff, it warned.
There will also be strong wind-generated waves in the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand. All shipping should proceed with caution, the department said. Enditem
