TALLINN, Sept. 12 (Xinhua) -- Estonia gave green light to the European Stability Mechanism (ESM) as President Toomas Hendrik Ilves signed the ESM ratification instrument into law early Wednesday.

"As a result of the fundamental changes made in Parliament, the legislation is in harmony with the Constitution," said a statement from the office of the president.

"In today's world, no country can be successful in the field of the economy and security alone. Everyone needs allies, those who share the same principles, purposes, values," said the statement.

"Estonia's choice is a strong, successful and influential EU, which means sense of responsibility and compromise," it said.

Estonian Parliament ratified the treaty on Aug. 30 after the supreme court and cabinet respectively made a approval of the EU finacial measures against the ongoing deterioration of the debt crisis. Enditem
