Flood warning for more provinces in Thailand
BANGKOK, Sept. 13 (Xinhua) -- Thai authority on Thursday warned people in four provinces in the Central Plain to closely monitor the flood situation as heavy rain is anticipated this weekend.
The Royal Irrigation Department on Thursday issued a flood warning for people living downstream of the Chao Phraya Dam, particularly in the four central provinces of Chai Nat, Sing Buri, Ang Thong and Ayutthaya.
The department suggested that people living in this area should move their belongings to higher ground and take steps to protect their property from floodwaters.
The Chao Phraya Dam was releasing water at the rate of 1,800 to 2,000 cubic metres a second, causing the water level to rise by 25 to 50 centimetres. The water was released because more rain is expected over the next five days, the department announced.
The total of 13 provinces, mostly in the upper part of the country were now hit by flood. Almost 200,000 people were affected by flood so far. Enditem
