Anti-Islam movie causes great prejudice: Tunisian spokesman

TUNIS, Sept. 13 (Xinhua) -- A Tunisian presidency spokesman on Thursday slammed the controversial anti-Islam movie -- The Innocence of Muslims -- which is being screened in American cinemas, the official TAP press agency reported.

The film "caused great prejudice to all Muslims throughout the world," Adnan Mansar said in a written statement.

The movie, reportedly with contents that insults the Muslim's Prophet Mohammed, has triggered massive protests in many Arab nations over the days such as Egypt, Libya, Tunisia, Yemen and Iran -- some of them turning extremely violent and fatal.

"The right of opinion cannot counter that of Islam, dignity and faith, it ought to defend them," Mansar said.

He also voiced his "indignation" that certain parties "take advantage of so-called artistic works to commit terrorist acts against the interests of a nation."

"The appropriate reaction would be to represent a positive image of our cultural symbols to show their greatness and their contribution to humanity," Mansar said, adding that those who create such injurious works should be prosecuted.

He also called on the Islamic nations to "coordinate their efforts to convince the countries where such works are produced, of their disastrous impact on the relations between cultures and religions." Enditem
