Roundup: Thai flood still worrisome

BANGKOK, Sept. 20 (Xinhua) -- The flood situation in many provinces is still worrisome particularly in the eastern provinces.

In eastern province of Sa Kaeo, large amount of flood water was drained into the Prachin Buri River, relive the situation in Sa Kaeo. Unfortunately, the water overflowed to flood a nearby province Prachin Buri and submerge its Kabin Buri district, affecting the agricultural areas and homes.

Residents in flooded area in Prachin Buri were forced to move their vehicles, as well as pets, to higher ground.

Some of the villagers has evacuated and stay on the roadside which caused them difficulties to commuters.

Meanwhile, in central province of Nakhon Pathom, adjacent to the capital, water from the Tha Chin River overflowed into the Nakhon Chai Si municipality and the famous Tha Na market which was the 100 year old trading district.

Local authorities are using pumps to drain floodwater into Tha Chin River to protect paddy fields and orchards.

In northern province of Phisanulok, three districts remained submerged by water overflowing from the Yom River.

The Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department on Thursday reported that 15 provinces have been affected from the flood.

The 15 provinces are western province of Tak, central province of Sukhothai, Pichit, Nakhon Sawan, Nakhon Pathom, Chainat, Ang Thong, Ayutthaya, Supan Buri, eastern province of Prachin Buri, Sa Kaeo and northeastern province of Chaiyaphum, affecting more than 210,000 people.

Meanwhile, Science and Technology Minister Plodprasop Surasawadi, as chairman of the Water and Flood Management Commission, will begin a three-day trip to eight provinces on Friday to see the flood situation first hand. Enditem
