Xinhua summary of Asia-Pacific stocks news at 1100 GMT, Sept. 25

VIENTIANE -- The Lao stock market finished on Tuesday down 0.95 percent against the previous trading day.

The Lao Securities Exchange composite index decreased by 10.18 points to 1057.09. A total of 242,333 shares worth about 1.23 billion Lao kip (about 154,000 U.S. dollars changed hands at the stock market.

WELLINGTON -- New Zealand shares rose, pushing the NZX 50 Index to a new high as offshore investors were drawn to the nation's relatively stable earnings and high yields.

The sharemarket closed 0.4 percent higher on Tuesday with the benchmark NZX-50 index rose 16.16 points to 3825.31 and a turnover of 114 million NZ dollars (93.81 million U.S. dollars).

SEOUL -- South Korean stocks closed lower Tuesday.

The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) fell 12. 03 points, or 0.6 percent, to finish at 1,991.41. Trading volume was moderate at 523.9 million shares worth 4.55 trillion won (4.06 billion U.S. dollars) with decliners outpacing advancers 570 to 257.

TOKYO -- Tokyo stocks ended a seesaw session slightly higher Tuesday, helped by investors buying high dividend shares in the absence of other lucrative factors.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average climbed 22.25 points, or 0. 25 percent, from Monday at 9,091.54. The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange gained 3.98 points, or 0.53 percent, to 757.66.

TAIPEI -- Taiwan's share prices closed lower Tuesday with the weighted index down 34.17 points, or 0.43 percent, to close at 7, 734.13.

The local bourse fluctuated between 7,720.44 and 7,789.39 during the day's trading. Turnover totaled 77.45 billion new Taiwan dollars (about 2.64 billion U.S. dollars).

HANOI -- Vietnam's stock market index, VN-Index, closed at 391. 77 points on Tuesday, up 1.4 points or 0.36 percent against the previous close.

A total of 23.940 million shares worth 442.594 billion Vietnamese dong (VND) (21.22 million U.S. dollars) changed hands at the southern Ho Chi Minh City Stock Exchange. Prices of 93 stocks went up, 111 stocks fell down, while 70 stocks remained unchanged.

SHANGHAI -- China's benchmark Shanghai Composite Index on the Shanghai Stock Exchange closed at 2,029.29 points on Tuesday, down 3.9 points, or 0.19 percent, from the previous close.

SHENZHEN -- The Shenzhen Component Index on the Shenzhen Stock Exchange closed at 8,284.25 on Tuesday, down 26.69 points, or 0.32 percent.

MANILA -- Philippine shares closed 0.01 percent lower Tuesday.

The benchmark Philippine Stock Exchange index decreased by 0.43 point to close at 5,325.17. The all-share index went down by 1.01 points, or 0.03 percent, to 3,546.66.

SYDNEY -- The Australian share market closed lower on Tuesday, dragged down by resources stocks, with investors responding to commodity price falls and Europe worries.

The benchmark S&P/ASX200 index was down 12.6 points, or 0.29 percent, at 4,372.9, while the broader All Ordinaries index fell 13.7 points, or 0.31 percent, to 4,395.5.

DHAKA -- Bangladesh's Dhaka Stock Exchange All Shares Price Index, the benchmark index, closed at 4,038.28 points Tuesday, up 28.87 points or 0.72 percent from Monday's finish.

SINGAPORE -- Singapore stocks finished slightly lower on Tuesday, with the benchmark Straits Times Index (STI) down 0.8 point or 0.03 percent to close at 3,067.13.

KUALA LUMPUR -- The Malaysian stock market ended higher here on Tuesday.

The Kuala Lumpur Composite Index (KLCI) was at 1,618.58 up 6.20 points or 0.38 percent, and the Emas was at 10,995.41 up 26.57 points or 0.24 percent.

JAKARTA -- Indonesian shares closed higher by 25.972 points, or 0.62 percent, to a level of 4,226.886 points on Tuesday.

As many as 153,640 transactions were booked today, involving 4. 6 billion copies of share worth 4.5 trillion rupiah (about 470 million U.S. dollars).

BANGKOK -- The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) index on Tuesday moved up 3.11 points, or 0.24 percent to close at 1,287.41 points.
