Temperatures in Japan in Sept. highest on record

TOKYO, Oct. 1 (Xinhua) -- Temperatures in Japan in September were the highest for the month on average since 1898 when the relevant data were available, the Japan Meteorological Agency said Monday.

The weather agency's analysis, which is based on historical comparisons of data at places across the nation, found average temperatures at 53 observation points -- including Sapporo, Sendai and downtown Tokyo -- were the highest or paralleled previous all- time highs.

Most of the observation points where average temperatures broke or tied previous records are in the northern or eastern parts of Japan, it added. Enditem
