Indonesia implements concrete action to support South-South cooperation: official
JAKARTA, Oct. 8 (Xinhua) -- An Indonesian official said on Monday that government has implemented concrete actions in supporting and promoting South-South cooperation among countries situated in southern hemisphere, saying that the action is translated in the country's development policies, local media reported.
"The support is demonstrated in the inclusion (of the commitment) in the Long and Medium Terms of National Development Plans (RPNJPM)," AM Fachir, director general of public information and diplomacy at Indonesia's foreign affairs ministry said in a seminar themed "Strengthening South-South and Triangular Cooperation with Development Partners" held in Bogor, West Java.
The seminar was attended by a number of stakeholders and international organizations among others the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), the Australian Agency for International Development) (AUSAID), the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), German International Cooperation (GIZ) GmbHn and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), the Antara news agency reported.
Fachir said as a developing nation, Indonesia has since 1955 supported the South-South cooperation and technical cooperation through a number of forums including the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) , G-77 and G-15.
He added the government has also formed a South-South Cooperation Coordinating Team tasked to consolidate the implementation of the bloc's policies and strengthen coordination among relevant agencies in Indonesia.
He said Indonesia's strong commitment to share best practices and knowledge with South-South cooperation member countries was also manifested by the establishment of Knowledge Hub Facility, inaugurated by Indonesian Vice President Boediono in Bali July this year.
He added that the facility is assigned to promote and provide materials on development cooperation, peace building efforts and macro-economic management. Enditem
