Singapore Airlines (SIA) has placed a 7.5-billion-U.S.-dollars order for 25 widebody aircraft from Airbus, the Paris-based aircraft manufacturer announced on Wednesday.

The new order comprises five double-deck A380s and 20 A350s.

"The aircraft will enable us to further enhance our network, providing more travel options to our customers," said SIA CEO Goh Choon Phong.

"They will also feature the next generation of in-flight cabin products to keep us at the forefront of airline product innovation," Phong added.

A total of 257 firm orders have been placed for the A380 by 20 airlines and 558 for the A350 by 34 airlines.

The new A350, to be introduced in 2014, has been advertised as an extremely fuel efficient model in its size category, using 25 percent less fuel and providing an equivalent reduction in CO2 emissions. Endi
