An exhibition showcasing the Chinese seal carving and calligraphy works by former Chinese Vice Premier Li Lanqing opened here Thursday at the British Museum.

The exhibition, which will run till Jan. 15, 2013, features 108 seals and multiple calligraphy pieces, which fall into four categories: the art of the Chinese seal carving, world culture, contemporary China and lifestyle.

Li, also a former member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, has been dedicated to the popularization of Chinese culture and art since his retirement in 2003.

Over the past 10 years, he has created more than 800 seals and a great number of calligraphy works.

Li made 14 seals tailored for this exhibition, including 12 seals bearing the names of famous British historical and cultural figures such as William Shakespeare, Isaac Newton and Charles Darwin. These seals would be presented as gifts to the museum after the exhibition.

Li's seal carving and calligraphy exhibition had been held in Singapore, Russia, France and Indonesia. Endi
