The Nigerian military forces on Thursday said the Boko Haram group masterminded Wednesday's bomb attack on army troops in the nation's troubled north east city of Maiduguri.

Boko Haram had claimed responsibility for series of bomb attacks and killings in some Nigeria northern states.

Spokesman of the military Joint Task Force (JTF) Lt. Col Sagir Musa told Xinhua in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, that the Islamic sect was responsible for the bomb explosion which would have killed army officer and soldiers.

"At about 8:35 a.m. local time on Wednesday, there was a failed IED attack on a JTF patrol vehicle along Costain area of Maiduguri metropolis," he said, noting that an IED remote control bomb targeted at JTF vehicle was planted and buried on the road by suspected Boko Haram.

The spokesman however said no casualty was recorded, nobody was killed or wounded even as he appealed to residents to offer credible information that could lead to the arrest of the perpetrators.

Maiduguri, located in Nigeria's northeastern region, is a Boko Haram flashpoint, where the Nigerian government had declared and lifted some curfews due to wave of attacks.

Waves of attacks believed to be perpetrated by the Boko Haram sect have been reported in the northern and central parts of Nigeria.

The Human Rights Watch (HRW) said in its latest report that more than 1,500 people, including women and children, had been killed in various attacks by the Boko Haram sect since 2009. Endi
