Deputy UN chief to visit UAE, Ethiopia

The deputy UN secretary- general, Jan Eliasson, is scheduled to start a visit to Dubai, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), this weekend to attend the World Economic Forum's Summit on the Global Agenda 2012, before traveling to Ethiopia for the 13th Session of the Regional Coordination Mechanism of UN Agencies and Organizations Working in Africa, a UN spokesman announced here Friday.

Eliasson will deliver keynote remarks at the World Economic Forum's Summit on the Global Agenda 2012, said Farhan Haq, the associate UN spokesman, at a daily news briefing here.

The forum is co-hosted by the government of the UAE on Nov. 12- 14.

The deputy secretary-general will also co-chair the 13th Session of the Regional Coordination Mechanism of UN Agencies and Organizations Working in Africa in support of the African Union, scheduled to take place in Addis Ababa on Nov.14-15.

"While in the UAE and Ethiopia, the deputy secretary-general will hold bilateral meetings with senior government officials," Haq said. "He will also meet with the leadership of the African Union Commission while in Addis Ababa."
