Brazil's state-controlled oil and gas giant Petrobras has finished the construction of a new platform ship, which will start production in January 2013, a company statement said Wednesday.
FPSO Cidade de Sao Paulo, which left the Brasfels shipyard in Rio de Janeiro state on Sunday, is now undergoing final tests, Petrobras said in the statement.
After testing, the new platform will head to its permanent location in the Sapinhoa field of the Santos Basin off Brazil's southeastern coast.
Production is expected to start in January when the platform ship is connected to the first well. Other wells will be connected to Cidade de Sao Paulo later.
Its production capacity will reach 120,000 barrels of oil and 5 million cubic meters of natural gas per day. FPSO Cidade de Sao Paulo will be the first unit to operate in the Sapinhoa field. A second unit is expected to start operation in the area in the second half of 2014. Endi
