Huawei Technologies Tanzania Co. Ltd, a leading information and communication technology solutions provider, launched on Thursday an Information Communication Technology (ICT) education program that will foster ICT development and ICT talent training in Tanzania.

Speaking at the press conference, the Huawei Tanzania Managing Director, Bruce Zhang said the program will be known as "Huawei ICT Star program for Tanzania Education," which will support primary and secondary schools, as well as universities, to develop ICT interests.

According to the program, for the primary and secondary schools, it will contribute in improving the learning infrastructures that provide a better learning environment for the students in their early stage. For universities, Huawei is going to set up "Huawei ICT Star" scholarship, providing specific free packages of ICT training to excellent students in Huawei Africa Training Centers.

"The Tanzania Development Vision of 2025 envisages a nation filled with well educated and learning society as well as a strong and competitive economy capable of producing sustainable growth and shared benefits. The 'Huawei ICT Star program for Tanzania Education' is expected to bring innovative technologies and approaches that will trigger ICT development in Tanzania," Zhang said.

Chinese Ambassador to Tanzania, Lu Youqing said while many global companies decreased their overseas investment to seek investment protection amid the global economic crisis, Chinese overseas companies have never withdrawn their investments and downsized, but rather worked together with the respective countries to face challenges and find mutual benefiting way of development as part of social responsibility.

"Huawei Tanzania has reached 65 percent localization, which is not only a motivation for Huawei future growth in this country, but also gives a good example of how a Chinese company increases local employment, tax collection and skills development," he said.

The Tanzanian Minister for Communications, Science and Technology, Makame Mbarawa, said the program will enable young people in Tanzania to grasp ICT at tender age and be able to contribute towards the country's economic growth.

Since its establishment in Tanzania in 2001, Huawei Tanzania has been engaging in several corporate social responsibility activities in education field. The "Huawei ICT Star for Tanzania Education" is expected to create a link between ICT industry and ICT talent development with the aim of enhancing economic growth in Tanzania. Endi
