Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas on Wednesday welcomed a ceasefire agreement brokered by Egypt between Israel and Gaza militant groups led by Islamic Hamas movement.

Abbas said in an official statement published by the official news agency Wafa that he supports the agreement "to stop the bloodshed of our people and to put an end to the continuation of the Israeli aggression on Gaza."

Earlier on Wednesday evening, Hamas and Egypt announced that Egypt has brokered a ceasefire agreement that will be valid at 9: 00 p.m. local time (1900 GMT) between Israel and Gaza militant groups.

"The Palestinian (National) Authority believes that any forthcoming steps of the ceasefire won't harm the interests of our people and the geographic unity between the Gaza Strip and West Bank."

Ashraf al-Qedra, Hamas-run Health Ministry spokesman, said the death toll of Israeli aggression had climbed to 158, while 1,200 Palestinians were wounded, most of whom were civilian children, women and elderly men. Endi
