Indonesia launched a nationwide movement on Sunday aimed at encouraging people to bear anti- corruption stance in mind as part of the activities to mark the International Anti-Corruption Day that falls on Dec. 9.

The groundbreaking of the nationwide movement was held in the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) compound, with a huge banner that carries the slogan "Dare To Be Honest is Great!" covering the entire surface of a wall of the building.

"Corruption can be eradicated by honesty. Honesty should not only be talked by the people. It must be implemented and be part of people's daily life. If people doing it every day, the potential of corruption act can be eliminated," KPK Vice Chairman Bambang Widjojanto told Xinhua on the sidelines of the event.

He pointed out that honesty would be a basic strategy to encourage public awareness and commitment in eradicating corruption.

The importance of exercising honest stance was resulted from several discussions to address corruption eradication efforts that previously had been conducted several times, he added.

Experts agreed that the ongoing efforts to eradicate corruption had not bought the expected results.

The efforts were only focusing on legal proceedings to eradicate corruption and tend to leave the efforts as the government's problems, the vice chairman said.

Indonesia was ranked the 100th among 183 countries in the Corruption Perception Index of the Transparency International in 2011, showing that corruption practice was still significant in the country. In the same survey carried out by the international anti-corruption agency, Indonesia was ranked 110th among 178 countries and 111th among 180 countries in 2010 and 2009, respectively. Endi
