The Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood decided Monday to postpone its rally previously scheduled for Tuesday near the Cairo University to avoid further bloodshed, as thousands of Egyptians continued their protests over the new constitutional declaration issued by President Mohamed Morsi.

In a bid to show their support to Morsi, the rally was scheduled to be joined by the ultra-conservative Salafists as well as members and supporters of the brotherhood.

Meanwhile, opponents and people who disagree with the constitutional declaration also staged a protest in downtown Tahrir Square, a few miles away from the Cairo University.

Protests and clashes between supporters and opponents of the brotherhood have killed two and injured 444 people. A fierce clash erupted Sunday night between Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood members and opponents in its office in the Nile Delta city of Damanhour, leaving one young brotherhood member killed and 60 others injured.

Egypt had seen a national wide protest against the brotherhood and its president who issued a new constitutional declaration on Thursday, granting him the absolute power inside Egypt.

According to the new constitutional declaration, all laws, decrees and constitutional declarations issued by the president since coming to office on June 30, 2012, are final and unchallengeable by any body.

As to the Constitutional Assembly, the declaration noted that the new draft constitution will be formed within a maximum period of eight months, instead of six, from the date of assembly's formation, which means the new declaration extended the period of drafting for another two months, until Feb. 2013.

No judicial body is entitled to dissolve the Shura Council ( upper house) or the Constituent Assembly, the declaration stated. Endi
